Gophers mascot Goldy Gopher bio

University of Minnesota mascot Goldy gopherWho is the biggest Minnesota Golden Gophers fan around? Well, the mascot, Goldy, of course! Goldy's official bio on the Gophers Atletic website states he was born too long ago to remember, but history states Goldy officially began in 1940, the gopher was elected to be the official animal in 1857.

Goldy has taken on many different appearances, based on what his fans wanted, either more ferocious or less ferocious as times and opinions change. Goldy the gopher attends more than 500 events and other appearances per year! That's one busy gopher!

It is said that Goldy once beat out a football player in a push-up contest! We have a seriously strong mascot here! Goldy is also very smart, going straight to college, bypassing high school altogether! Goldy gopher plans on attending the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus until mascotting becomes a legitimate and respected major and field of study. If you ask me, Goldy could teach the classes! Give him his degree already and let Goldy start teaching others how to be the best mascot that you can be!

NBA Draft is Over: Time to Focus on 2011-12 College Basketball Season

The NBA draft has come and gone. It was an especially weak draft, mostly because of the members of the 2010 recruiting class, but especially because a ton of the top players in college basketball decided to return college basketball next season. Most notable players who could have easily been top five picks were Harrison Barnes, Perry Jones, and Jared Sullinger. What does this really mean?

2011-2012 college basketball season is going to be amazing. The sport returns a ton of star power, led by Sullinger and Barnes, that should make for a really good season. North Carolina is returning practically their entire team, as is Ohio State besides David Lighty and Jon Diebler. With Jared Sullinger controlling the paint, the Buckeyes are for sure in contention for the Natty.

So buy Gopher tickets today with Ticket King! The gophers return a glut of star players such as Trevor Mbakwe, Ralph Sampson, and Rodney Williams. Especially try to go to the game when the Buckeyes visit the Gophers next season. I can smell an upset brewing!

Penn State and Michigan Will Not Visit Williams Arena

After the basketball schedule for the Golden Gophers was recently announced, I found myself feeling very sad. At first I was wondering why I felt so sad and now I realize that it is because Penn State and Michigan won't be visiting the Barn. I know what you're thinking Michigan's a very good team we should be glad that we don't have to play them as much. Here are my two cents on why I'm going to miss these teams next year.

Penn State is not good at all. I love when they come to the Barn because they suck so I love going to the Barn and watching the Gophers pick up an easy win. Michigan is the team I really wish was coming to the Barn. The gophers play so well at home and a win against a Michigan team that is expected to be ranked could really boost their resume. At least we will still get a shot at the Buckeyes

Minnesota Gophers Will Have New Talent on the Williams Arena Court in 2011

Trevor MbakweThe Minnesota Gophers will return a lot of talent to the court in 2011, as well as bring in some new talent. All-Big Ten forward Trevor Mbakwe is expected to return, as is center Ralph Sampson III. Both are seniors but have been rumored to be considered in the NBA Draft. One of the top recruits coming into Minnesota next season will be Andre Hollins. He was Tennessee's Mr. Basketball and got increasingly more national recognition this season. He will be joined by Minnesota's Mr. Basketball, Joe Coleman who led Hopkins High School to their 3rd straight title. They will be joined by Junior College transfers Andre Ingram and Julian Welch. The Minnesota Gophers will definitely return some great talent!

Minnesota Gophers Will Be Back Next Season

Williams Arena FansTubby Smith is still in Dinkytown. The Minnesota Gophers ended the 2010-2011 season short of what they hoped for, but next year is a fresh start. The Minnesota Gophers will be returning some key players and bringing in some solid recruits. Williams Arena will once again be jam-packed for Minnesota Gophers games. I'm sure there will be plenty of news in the offseason that will keep us occupied until the season comes around. Be sure to check here for new updates!

Williams Arena Quiet Now Means Gopher Basketball Season is Over

Minnesota Gopher Basketball FansWilliams Arena will be quiet now until next season. That means that the Minnesota Gophers 2010-2011 regular season schedule is over. The Minnesota Gophers played their last home game of the year on Sunday, March 6th against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Unfortunately, the Minnesota Gophers fell 66-63, capping a rough end to the year, in which they lost 8 of their last 9. The team will have to win the Big Ten Tournament in order to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Williams Arena will be waiting until next season when the Minnesota Gophers will be ready for another season in the Big Ten.
