Gopher Basketball Hires New Coach Richard Pitino

Well, this is it Gopher Basketball fans. Minnesota has reached an agreement with Florida International's Richard Pitino to be the Gophers' new coach. The school introduced Pitino at a news conference on Friday, and was greeted with a great response. Richard Pitino is the son of NCAA coaching legend Rick Pitino.

Richard Pitino was with his father's team, the Louisville Cardinals, during the NCAA tournament and even went to see Kevin Ware with his father Monday in an Indianapolis hospital. Remember the guy who broke his leg? Richard Pitino also was a former Louisville assistant who also has served as an assistant at Florida and Providence. He has the experience, but how will he do with our beloved Gophers? We can't wait to see how the season goes!

Richard Pitino has been coaching at FIU. FIU ranked fifth in the nation in turnover percentage, a 123-spot improvement over Isiah Thomas' last year at the helm. The net result is 10 more wins, and we all know that winning coaching style can only help the Gophers. Keep checking back at our blog to get all your Gopher basketball news!
